Question: Is colon cleansing safe for me while I am pregnant?
Answer: Colon cleansing systems are not recommended while you are pregnant or breastfeeding due to the toxins that are released from the body while undergoing a colon cleanse. There are things you can do to improve your colon health however.
The first thing to do is to drink plenty of water. We know this can be difficult while you are pregnant, but it will soften your stool and help to prevent the constipation that is so common during pregnancy.
You should also eat a diet that is delivering a sufficient amount of fiber. Fiber helps to keep your stools formed, but loose. This will also help to alleviate any symptoms of constipation you may feel.
A good rule of thumb for women is about twenty grams of fiber per day, but be sure to ask your doctor is you should be getting more or less fiber during your pregnancy.
The last thing is to take a short walk after meals. This gets the digestive juices going and will assist your body in breaking down the food you just ate. Don’t overdo it as a short walk is more than sufficient.
Thank you for checking in about the safety of colon cleansing while pregnant and be sure to ask your doctor if you have other questions. Good luck with the baby!
