Question: What is a good colon cleansing food? I am reluctant to use an enema or take medication so something I can eat as part of my regular diet would be best.
Answer: A great colon cleansing food diet will include fresh vegetables, unpeeled fruits, beans, seeds, nuts, and the old favorite, bran.
There are two types of fiber that you ingest in most diets, soluble and insoluble. Soluble fiber is the necessary type of fiber that can be absorbed by the body. Insolubly fiber does not break down and is eliminated.
The key to a healthy colon is finding the right mix of soluble and insolubly fiber. The insoluble fiber acts as a broom when it passes through the colon and pushes hardened waste material through the digestive tract.
A good source of both soluble and insoluble fiber is flax seeds and oats. Each of those contains both types of fiber and are a good, natural, source for fiber intake.
The daily fiber recommendations to keep a healthy colon is 25-35 grams per day. Most people average about half of that amount in their daily diet so it is important to increase your daily fiber if your diet is in this range.
In general colon cleansing food will be foods that are high in fiber and take longer to digest such as green leafy vegetables, nuts, seeds, and bran. We hope these recommendations will be useful to you and encourage you to check back frequently.
